Job Description
The PM will lead all planning and deployment aspects of customer projects in a particular geographic area. The PM is the principal customer liaison and must be able to manage concurrent projects adeptly. The PM must have the ability to work independently to perform initial project planning, lead the management of customer relationships during pilot and rollout efforts, assist in range/coverage testing and site development, and supervise SSN network installations on an end-to-end basis. The PM may be assigned to a single long-term deployment or multiple smaller projects.
The PM will also be responsible for managing customer issues and coordinating customer training during the installation timeframe, and prepare hand-off plans to the customer (or to SSN Network Operations) at the conclusion of the deployment. The PM will also be called upon to interface with internal customers (Sales, Marketing and Product Development organizations in particular) on product and systems improvements. As part of a comprehensive orientation and training process, the PM will be required to invest a significant portion of time for the first 3-6 months (no weekends) at SSN’s headquarters in Redwood City, CA.
Responsibilities:
Interface with customer and contractor installation teams during installation. Work with and support outside contractors and customer installers to ensure project deployment timeliness and quality. Assist in documentation of project objectives, actions and as-completed materials, and all contracted reports as outlined in each project’s deliverables list.
Must be knowledgeable of project scope and contract requirements, customer union contracts (if applicable), training programs, local and national rules and FCC regulations related to project activities.
Communicate regularly with the Vice President, Customer Operations and Director, Eastern Region during project deployment.
Identify and recommend improvements to operating standards, policies, procedures and equipment related to SSN projects to increase efficiency, improve consistency of operating standards, decrease operating costs and improve overall customer satisfaction.
Supervise on-going project deployment activities for contracted customers and assist as needed in all phases of deployment of a project.
Participate in project status meetings with customers and SSN management as part of project deployment. Document and communicate all project issues, potential solutions and recommended actions to SSN management and client executives.
Must be knowledgeable of project scope and contract requirements, customer union contracts (if applicable), training programs, local and national rules and local radio regulations related to project activities.
Required Experience
Bachelor of science in engineering (electrical or computer science preferred) or bachelor of business administration. Equivalent experience may be considered.
10+ years direct large-scale, multi-phase project management, preferably for deployment of a telecommunications network (wireless or wired) and/or utility automation system deployment.
Demonstrated leadership, analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will be able to describe multiple business situations where these skills have been leveraged.
Must possess above average written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and concurrent projects. SSN’s networks are in great demand and the PM must be able to coordinate multiple projects in varying degrees of deployment.
Experience in personal computer operations and use of Microsoft Office suite plus experience with off-the-shelf and special-purpose test programs. Microsoft Project is SSN’s standard project management application; experience in Oracle Projects is highly desirable as well.
Ability to travel as much as 60% of the time, principally in North America; some international travel may be required.
Experience and knowledge of gas, water and electric utility meter reading and related distribution automation technologies is desirable.
Technical training and knowledge of radio frequency equipment used in planning and installing radio network equipment and multiple wired/wireless wide area networks is highly desirable.
Experience with GIS, CIS and other utility systems are also desirable.
